The Sunrise Education Foundation is a private, non-profit organisation that is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility Programme. It was established with the following objectives:

• To grant scholarships to deserving individuals with outstanding academic performance for the pursuit of tertiary education locally or overseas.
• To provide financial assistance to financially needy members of the society for primary, secondary as well as tertiary education.

CATEGORY 1: MERIT BASED AWARDS
Applicable to tertiary education for undergraduate programmes only in any field of studies.

Eligibility

• Must be Malaysians aged 25 years and below as at 1st January of every calendar year.
• Must have applied to and be accepted by one of the top ranking Universities in the world on a full time basis.
• Possess excellent academic records with a minimum CGPA score of 3.5 or equivalent. Four(4) As in the Sijil Tinggi Pelarajan Malaysia (STPM) or 'A' Level examination.
• Scholarship awards will only be offered to successful candidates upon enrolment into the respective tertiary education institutions applied which are the top ranking universities in the world.
• Possess strong leadership skills and is active in extra-curricular activities and/or social community services.
• Must not be under any bond with other foundations/organisations or recipient of any scholarships, or financial awards from any educational institutions/government/organisations/foundations.

Terms and conditions of scholarship

• Value of scholarship will depend on the course of study applied and will cover tuition fees only.
• Tenure of the scholarship is for the minimum period required by the recipient to complete the course subject always to term and condition 4 below.
• Recipient will not be bonded.
• Renewal of scholarship will be subject to recipient achieving a minimum CGPA score of 3.5 or equivalent. Recipient must submit their results of the current year’s studies to Sunrise Education Foundation Evaluation Committee (“SEFEC”) for review.
• Recipient is not allowed to change course without the prior written consent of SEFEC.
• Recipient must not be subsequently under any bond with or recipient of any scholarships, or financial aid or awards from other educational institutions/government/ organisations or foundations during the course of studies.

CATEGORY 2: NEEDS BASED AWARDS
(a) Tertiary Education
Applicable to undergraduate courses in a local public university only.

Eligibility

• Must be Malaysians aged 25 years and below as at 1st January of every calendar year.
• Must have obtained or awaiting admission to study at an approved and recognized local public university on a full time basis.
• Aggregate gross household income of the parents/guardians must not exceed RM2,500.00 per month. Certified supporting documents are required. This criterion will be reviewed together with the number of dependents in the family. This condition is not applicable to orphans.
• While needs is the key criteria, the applicant is required to meet a minimum standard of academic performance to be considered for the award. Minimum standard of academic performance is defined as no failures in any subjects and a minimum CGPA score of 3.0 or equivalent.
• Scholarship awards will only be offered to successful candidates upon enrolment into the university.
• Possess strong leadership skills and active involvement in school extracurricular activities and/or social community services.
• Must not be under any bond with other foundations/organisations or recipient of any scholarships, financial aid or awards from other educational institutions/ government/organisations/foundations.

Terms and conditions of scholarship

• Value of the scholarship is RM7,000.00 per academic year to cover tuition fees, and other incidental expenses such as administrative and processing fees where applicable, up to the respective award limit to enable enrolment into the university.
• Tenure of the scholarship is for the minimum period required by the recipient to complete the course subject always to term and condition 4 below.
• Recipient will not be bonded.
• Renewal of scholarship is subject to review based on satisfactory academic progress i.e. no failures in any subject. Successful applicants are required to submit results of their current year’s studies to SEFEC for review.
• Recipient is not allowed to change course without the prior written consent of the SEFEC.
• Recipient must not be subsequently under any bond with or recipient of any scholarships, or financial aid or awards from other educational institutions/ government/organisations/foundations.

(b) Primary and secondary school education
Applicable to local public primary and secondary schools.

Eligibility

• Must be Malaysian students aged 20 years and below as at 1st January of every calendar year.
• The aggregate gross household income of the parents/guardians must not exceed RM2,500.00 per month. Certified supporting documents are required. This criterion will be reviewed together with the number of dependents in the family. This condition is not applicable to orphans.
• While needs is the key criteria, the applicant is required to meet a minimum standard of academic performance to be considered for the award. Minimum standard of academic performance is defined as no failures in any subjects.
• Applicants must not be recipients of any scholarships, financial aid or awards from other educational institutions/government/organisations/foundations.

Terms and conditions of scholarship

• Value of the scholarship will depend on individual needs but is subject to a maximum of RM2,500.00 per individual per academic year to cover school fees, books, transportation and tuition fees as well as a token sum for living costs up to the respective award limit.
• Renewal of the scholarship after the first year is subject to review based on a minimum standard of satisfactory academic progress i.e. no failures in any subject.
• Successful applicants are required to submit receipts of schooling expenses eg. books, transportation, uniform and results of their current year’s studies to SEFEC for review.
• The scholarship is not transferable to third parties.

Please submit the duly completed Application form (if submitting by hand) and the following documents (where applicable) directly to the Foundation

1. One passport-sized photograph.
2. A copy of Identity Card / Birth Certificate.
3. Certified true copy of relevant examination results / certificate.
4. Certified true copy of School Leaving Certificate and Testimonial from previous institution/school attended.
5. Certified true copy of latest Income Tax Notice of Assessment/EA Form from parents or guardians. In the absence of the latest Income Tax Notice of Assessment/EA Form, please provide a letter of reference or supporting document(s) on financial status. Letters of reference by parents, immediate family members or relatives of applicant are not acceptable.
6. Certified true copy of Letter of Offer from University/College, if applicable.

Applications submitted after the closing date will not be entertained.

Deadlines for Scholarship Awards
(a) Tertiary Education

The Sunrise Education Foundation Committee must receive the completed Application and documentation by 30th April. Successful applicants will be informed of the Committee's decision latest by 30th June.

Only short-listed applicants will be notified.

(b) Primary and Secondary School Education

The Sunrise Education Foundation Committee must receive the completed Application and documentation by 15th November. Successful applicants will be informed of the Committee's decision latest by 15th December.

Q: Is the scholarship applicable to specific courses/fields of study only?
A: The scholarships are awarded to outstanding and deserving students pursuing further education regardless of course of study.

Q: I have yet to receive my offer letter to study at local universities/colleges that I have applied to. How can I apply for the education fund?
A: You can submit your Application Form with your results and other necessary details to us. However, your application will only be processed once you have obtained and forwarded us the admission letter from respective university/college.

Q: Can I change my program or course midway during my studies?
A: No. You are not allowed to change course without prior written approval from Sunrise Education Foundation.

Q: What is the value of tertiary education scholarship awarded per student?
A:For local public university the value is up to RM7,000.00 per academic year
      - For overseas university we pay for tuition fees only
      - Not applicable for local private university/institution

Q: How will the scholarship be paid?
A: Payment will be made directly to the educational institution/college/university of the scholarship recipient.

Q: Can I apply for the scholarship online?
A: Yes, you are encouraged to apply online. However, all relevant supporting and relevant certified documents are to be submitted on or before the closing date. You may download the online application form from our "How to Apply" section when we are open for applications.

Q: How will I know if my application is successful?
A: Only shortlisted candidates will be notified accordingly.

Q: What happens if I miss the deadline?
A: Late applications will not be entertained.

Q: Will you interview the candidates during the short listing process?
A: We may contact you for a face to face/email/phone interview to obtain further details.

Q: Do I have to apply for the scholarship every year?
A: This scholarship is granted to a successful candidate for the full duration of their tertiary education course subject to satisfactory progress and academic performance. You are required to submit results of your current year studies for review before the next payment.

Q: Is the scholarship applicable to students who are pursuing a second degree or Masters?
A: No, this scholarship is only applicable for those pursuing a first undergraduate degree.

Q: I am in my second year of Degree now. Can I apply for the tertiary education scholarship?
A: No, scholarship will only be given at the beginning of a degree and not midway.

Q: Do I have to pay back to Sunrise Education Foundation the scholarship sum offered after I have graduated?
A: No, you do not have to. However, you are most welcome to contribute to the Foundation in the future to enable the Foundation to support more students with similar needs.

Q: Is there a bond requirement for successful candidate?
A: No, there is no bonding for the successful candidate.
